Children make meaning of the world around them by interacting with people, places and things. The Playcentre Education program introduces Jean Piaget’s Schema Theory or as some call ‘play urges’ to describe children’s patterns of play, providing strategies on ways to extend and support children’s learning and behaviour needs.
The Playcentre philosophy of Whānau tupu ngātahi — Families growing together, fosters a culture of learning to enrich personal growth, build community and empower others. Encouraging ako (Māori word that encompasses learning and teaching), Playcentre education recognises all learners as capable and competent, valuing the skills, talents and capabilities that children and whānau bring to the learning community.
