Sessions : Monday to Friday from 9.15-11.45am
Out with the old and in with the new!
We are thrilled to have a modern spacious facility opened in 2009, which will be a great asset for years to come. We are now open five mornings a week.
Leeston Playcentre is a friendly, motivated centre with a real focus on community and whanau involvement. Because we are based in a rural setting, most parents choose to stay on during session, adding to the quality of learning.

What is Playcentre?
Playcentre is just what it sounds : a centre where child and parents play, and learn.
Why should I join?
Playcentre is a place to meet and make friends, share problems and good ideas!
* A chance to play with your child, get
messy and have fun with many different
resources.
* A place where your child can make
friends, have space to explore and imagine
and grow confident in a safe and friendly
environment, with children from different
ages.
We offer at least 16 areas of play each session, where children are free to choose what they want to do.
For example: climbing, reading, dancing, carpentry, painting, clay, dress ups, puppets, puzzles, sand, water, collage, playdough, science, nature and baking.
What does it cost?
Children under two are FREE, then $25 per term is charged, and $5 per additional day per week per term, and $5 per additional child over two.
Who runs Playcentre?
Playcentre is set up and run by local parents of preschool children, and licensed and chartered by the Ministry of Education.
Leeston Playcentre employs a qualified supervisor to help support and extend learning, and parents are rostered on to help during sessions. All parents are asked to clean up after each session, at 11.45am.
From time to time we hold fundraising events, and parents are also encouraged to attend meetings and join the committee. We have regular newsletters to keep everyone informed.
Can I leave my child?
Once your child is 2, they can be left on session. Children under two are under the care of their parent while on session.
How do I find out more?
Caregivers are encouraged to come along for three free sessions before enrolling. Please phone the numbers above to arrange this.
Enrolling:
Once you enrol your child, you will be introduced to Playcentre philosophies and routines, enabling you to be rostered on as parent-helper during sessions.
Your child will be given a profile book, to document and develop their learning with photos, artwork, conversations and learning stories. Parents are encouraged to maintain these records.
What parents say:
Playcentre is a great way to get out of the house and see different ways of doing things, while you and your child make some friends.
You get to be a kid yourself again, making huts and sandcastles, in a friendly and safe environment. If ever you want to invest time in your childs development, those pre-school years are the most important, and fun!

A few simple rules:
Bring old clothes and a change of clothes for your child, and possibly yourself!
* Bring morning tea for your child in a
named lunchbox.
* For the safety of everybody, nuts are not
allowed at Playcentre. Plastic wrap is
also a choking hazard for smaller
children.
* Children must sit to eat
* There is no swearing, smoking or smacking
at Playcentre.
* Hats and sunscreen are vital during summer
months.
* Children are encouraged to respect each
others learning, so no child may take
equipment from another, destroy their
work, or prevent another from playing at
their chosen activity.
* We respect bi-cultural practices; this
includes using our kai tables exclusively
for food.
We look forward to meeting you and your child.
